A little town called Red Springs, N.C. Tommy was a patient, understated, gentleman. He seemed to enjoy managing a couple dozen baseball babies, even though he was as reserved as we were wild. I performed poorly for him, and he still encouraged me to go out every fourth day and compete. Apparently, in many sources I've found, he is listed as being born in 1940. This obviously may affect his actual age of when he was a rookie.
