The points about Versalles and the Latino language barrier are all too true. I know that when Clemente was a young player, besides labeling him as "Bob" or "Bobby", the press often printed his interviews phonetically. Printing words such as "de" instead of "the" and "jou" instead of "you" made the player sound dumb. According to the records he came up at the young age of 20, but when his career ended he played much older than his reputed 30 years.
