How about, how great that two Cardinal pitchers had outstanding years and both ended up in the top three in the Cy Young voting? That's a great achievement. If you're talking about starting pitchers, innings pitched does seem to matter if you can put up comparable statistics, but be out there for your team for a few more games, that has great value.

Since there's no way you can say Lincecum doesn't deserve the award, it's a moot argument. The positive side of what the Card's aces did far outweighs any niggling over what pushed a voter one way or the other.

That said, the whole voting system in baseball honors leaves much to be desired. It's entirely possible that some voters just liked Lincecum's sexy long hair and that made the difference. Anytime I have trouble puzzling out one of these votes, I just say to myself, 'Dick Allen's not in the Hall of Fame', shrug my shoulders and move on.
Reply - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('15141','Cary','How about, how great that two Cardinal pitchers had outstanding years and both ended up in the top three in the Cy Young voting?
I think I'm confused about what you're saying. Isn't the best statistical pitcher usually the one who helped his team the most?
Reply - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('15139','Devon Young','I think I\'m confused about what you\'re saying.
