Seamhead to Appear on “Without A Curse”

by Mike Lynch

I’m happy to announce that I’ll be interviewed by MySportsRadio.com’s Alex Reimer on his baseball podcast, “Without A Curse,” which will be available for download on Monday, February 11. Alex and I will be discussing my book, Harry Frazee, Ban Johnson and the Feud That Nearly Destroyed the American League, as well as Seamheads.com.

If you’re not familiar with Alex or his podcast, you don’t know what you’re missing, especially if you’re a Red Sox fan. Alex is only 15 years old and he was only 12 when he first began podcasting. He also began blogging on AOL three years ago and was a regular caller to an internet radio show called “Sports Bloggers Live,” when Don Aucoin, a writer from the Boston Globe, first learned of Alex. He was interviewed for an article, which appeared in the Globe in July 2005, and his popularity grew from there. He appeared on The Today Show in August 2005, then made a guest appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno a month later. He’s been called the “Freddie Adu of bloggers,” “Alex the Phenom,” and “Dan Patrick on helium.”

Alex joined MySportsRadio.com in July 2005 and launched “Without A Curse,” a podcast dedicated to the Red Sox and baseball in general. He also blogs on MySportsRadio.com’s “Bang the Boards” message board and interacts with fans (his and baseball’s) who hang out at “Bang the Boards” to talk all things baseball.

Over the years he’s interviewed several members of the media, including Gordon Edes and Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe, Rob Bradford of the Boston Herald, Rob Neyer and Sean McAdam of ESPN.com, John Lowe of the Detroit Free Press, Geoff Baker of the Seattle Times and Casey Stern of MLB Radio. He’s also interviewed Kevin Goldstein and Maury Brown of Baseball Prospectus and Seth Mnookin, author of the book, Feeding the Monster: How Money, Smarts, and Nerve Took a Team to the Top.

I first discovered Alex’s show a few months ago on a list of baseball podcasts at iTunes and, being the Red Sox diehard that I am, I downloaded it. Not only was I pleasantly surprised the first time I listened to Alex, but I was impressed as hell. He’s intelligent, he’s insightful, he knows his stuff and he’s passionate. And he’s not afraid to share his opinions, no matter how controversial they may be. “True fans can’t get into Fenway Park anymore, because stupid bandwagon fans bring their bimbo girlfriends and leave by the fifth inning,” Reimer once complained. He was 12 years old at the time. You gotta love it.

WOW! This kid is great. He presents information in a way that’s easy to follow. His opinions may be a tad off the wall, but he does explain them well!

    Mike,

He’s fun to listen to. And when he has an opinion he sticks with it come hell or high water. It’s pretty tough to get him to back off his opinions, but you have to admire that about him.

I actually live in the Boston area, and have heard of this kid. He definitely knows baseball, but I can’t bring himself to listen to him. I think he comes across as your average, high school jock. He thinks his word is the final word, and if you disagree with him, he basically rips you apart, calls you a moron, and speaks down to you.

I will say though, that his interviews are pretty good. His massive ego works to his advantage in that area, so he’s never intimidated by anybody. On both his Red Sox, and wrestling show.

This dude is hilarious! He has a future in media for sure.

Very rarely is somebody so entertaining, and so knowledgeable.
