Otra buena temporada (Another Good Season)

Que no haya alcanzado las 20 victorias permite apreciar otra arista de la calidad de Johan Santana como lanzador. Su regularidad para mantener los partidos cerrados. En la segunda mitad de la temporada Santana dejó record de 8-0 en 15 aperturas con efectividad de 2.17.

Para un lanzador que debuta en la Liga Nacional dejar balance de 16-7 (4to en triunfos), 2.53 (lider) de efectividad y 206 ponches (4to) son números que justifican su presencia entre la élite de los pitchers de la actualidad en Grandes Ligas.

Por otro lado varios de los juegos donde no tuvo decisión el bullpen de los Mets fue incapaz de preservar la ventaja que dejó Santana al salir.

Brandon Webb (22-7, 3.30, 183), Tim Lincecum (18-5, 2.62, 265) son quienes en principio disputarían con Santana el título del mejor lanzador de la Liga Nacional en 2008.

Con esa victoria los Mets igualaron a Milwaukee en la lucha por el comodín.

La lógica dice que Webb o Lincecum deberían ganar el Cy Young, pero de tomarse en consideración  que Santana no perdió después del Juego de Estrellas la decisión pudiera tornarse muy cerrada.
