Veteran Luther Farrell going against 22-year-old Laymon Yokely in game #1. Atlantic City goes into the game short-handed as LF Fats Jenkins, whose signing with the Bacharach Giants is in dispute, is in New York playing for the Lincoln Giants, and CF Chaney White has the flu. Atlantic City owner Ike Washington has signed C Bob Collier and 1B/P Curtis Green from Buck Ewing’s All-Stars. Green starts at 1B and backup C Collier is being pressed immediately into service as the starting RF due to the roster issues.

Ambrose Reid opens the game with a sharp single to left, and Eggie Dallard follows with a base on balls. Oliver Marcell flies deep to LF, sending Reid to 3rd base with one out. Dick Lundy pops up to SS Scrappy Brown and Milton Lewis grounds out to 2B Dick Jackson to end the threat. Farrell retires the first two batters in the bottom of the first. Jud Wilson then singles, but is out stealing.

The teams remain scoreless until the bottom of the 3rd, where Scrappy Brown singles. Brown is then thrown out stealing as Yokely swings at strike three. Dick Jackson doubles into right-centerfield. Crush Holloway follows with a single to right, scoring Jackson. Farrell managed to get Jud Wilson out to end the inning. 1-0 Baltimore at the end of three.

In the bottom of the fourth, Rap Dixon crushes a one out home run over the center field fence. On to the top of the fifth, where Yokely walks both Collier and Farrell back to back. Reid then hits a ball back to the pitcher, and Yokely starts the double play to kill the rally.

In the top of the sixth, Marcell doubles to left, Lundy walks, and Yokely makes a bad throw, allowing Lewis to reach and loading the bases with no one out. Curtis Green pops out to SS Brown, then Cason grounds into a double play, killing another rally. The missed opportunity proves costly, and from there Yokely finishes the game and the 2-0 shutout.

NOTES: Yokely is the star of the game, going 9 innings, with 0 runs, 3 hits, 6 strikeouts and 5 walks. The hitting star is Crush Holloway, who goes 2 for 4 with a double, an RBI and a stolen base.
