{"id":1454,"date":"2009-07-27T18:30:31","date_gmt":"2009-07-28T01:30:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/seamheads.com\/blog\/2009\/07\/27\/ball-park-etiquette-for-dummies\/"},"modified":"2009-07-27T18:30:31","modified_gmt":"2009-07-28T01:30:31","slug":"ball-park-etiquette-for-dummies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/seamheads.com\/blog\/2009\/07\/27\/ball-park-etiquette-for-dummies\/","title":{"rendered":"Ball Park Etiquette for Dummies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ok\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m going to lay it all out on the line.\u00c2\u00a0 I am a Baseball Fan\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 a BIG one.\u00c2\u00a0 I appreciate spending my time in the friendly confines of just about any ball park I can get into.<!--more-->\u00c2\u00a0 I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m a ticket package holder for the Detroit Tigers.\u00c2\u00a0 I like conversing with other fans (home and away) to get their opinions, emotions and input on how the team is run.\u00c2\u00a0 However, there are a few unspoken rules that anyone who attends a ball game needs to know \u00e2\u20ac\u201c and exercise each and every time they attend a game.\u00c2\u00a0 I have run into each one of these instances recently and it has prompted me to voice my opinion on this page\u00e2\u20ac\u201c instead of getting arrested for assault with intent to commit great bodily harm at Comerica Park.<\/p>\n<p>1)\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 National Anthem &#8211; short and sweet here, when the National Anthem is sung (regardless of the country) all fans must rise; gentlemen remove your caps, stop what you are doing and shut your mouth.\u00c2\u00a0 Nothing is more annoying than someone babbling a running commentary while the anthem is sung.\u00c2\u00a0 This is a time for reflection \u00e2\u20ac\u201c SILENT reflection.\u00c2\u00a0 If you are unfortunate enough to not be in your seat at this time of the game, stop what you are doing and show some respect.\u00c2\u00a0 If you have kids with you, make sure you teach them this oh so important rule #1.<\/p>\n<p>2)\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 The Running Commentary \u00e2\u20ac\u201c yes it is appropriate to discuss thing pertaining to the team with other fans around you.\u00c2\u00a0 But please do not be that person who continues to talk throughout the duration of the game.\u00c2\u00a0 At some point, others around you will get very, very sick of listening to you \u00e2\u20ac\u201c especially if you are a fan of the visiting team.<\/p>\n<p>3)\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 The Running Commentary part deux \u00e2\u20ac\u201c the ballpark is a place for old friends to meet and catch up on what is going on in their lives.\u00c2\u00a0 These conversations should take place during the pregame warm up, between innings and the 7<sup>th<\/sup> inning stretch.\u00c2\u00a0 Please refrain from having lengthy and heavy non-baseball conversations at your seats where everyone around you can hear you.\u00c2\u00a0 No one wants to hear about what happened to Bobby and Suzy and how their parents are handling it.\u00c2\u00a0 This is why ballparks have gathering areas and bars.<\/p>\n<p>4)\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 \u00e2\u20ac\u0153I know everything\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Fan -\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 we have all overheard this guy at the park.\u00c2\u00a0 He is the one who thinks he is a walking bible on his favorite team.\u00c2\u00a0 Problem is that 98%of the time he is completely wrong.\u00c2\u00a0 If you don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t know for sure, don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t say it.\u00c2\u00a0 And surely don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t say it loud enough for the people in the next section to hear you.<\/p>\n<p>5)\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 The Middle of the Row Fan \u00e2\u20ac\u201c If you know your seats are in the middle of the row, please refrain from getting up in the middle of the inning to get your refreshments and take your bathroom breaks.\u00c2\u00a0 Others in the row get very sick of standing up to let you pass.\u00c2\u00a0 Please wait till the inning is over until you decide to depart your seat. (#5 is exempt from this in certain circumstances.)<\/p>\n<p>6)\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Uber drunk fan \u00e2\u20ac\u201c oh yes, the fan who was buzzed in the 2<sup>nd<\/sup>, drunk in the 4<sup>th<\/sup> and inebriated and obnoxious in the 7<sup>th<\/sup>.\u00c2\u00a0 These people need not come back to their seat after their 3<sup>rd<\/sup> bathroom break of the 4<sup>th<\/sup> inning.\u00c2\u00a0 It is best just to stay down on the concourse level closest to the bathrooms and beer vendors.\u00c2\u00a0 These people are usually habitual breakers of rule #5 and should be scowled at every time they try to pass.<\/p>\n<p>7)\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Crying Child \u00e2\u20ac\u201c I am a huge proponent of kids at the ball park \u00e2\u20ac\u201c kids of an acceptable age who know right from wrong and who can sit in one place for at least 2 innings.\u00c2\u00a0 A screaming child is a huge detriment to others who have paid good money to get into the park.\u00c2\u00a0 If you can\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t get a sitter, please don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t come.\u00c2\u00a0 If you do have to bring your very young child, make sure to position yourself as close to the aisle as possible for easy exit in the instance of an emotional outburst.<\/p>\n<p>8)\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 The Wave \u00e2\u20ac\u201c STUPIDEST THING EVER \u00e2\u20ac\u201c don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t do it\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 dumb, dumb, dumb\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6<\/p>\n<p>9)\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 7<sup>th<\/sup> inning stretch \u00e2\u20ac\u201c sing the song; you know it, so just sing it.\u00c2\u00a0 No one is judging your singing abilities.<\/p>\n<p>10)\u00c2\u00a0 Rally Caps \u00e2\u20ac\u201c are cool, but not in the 3<sup>rd<\/sup> inning.\u00c2\u00a0 This tradition is reserved for the 9<sup>th<\/sup> inning only and when the game is within reach.\u00c2\u00a0 You need more than a rally cap when your team is down by 12 in the bottom of the 9<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>11)\u00c2\u00a0 One Out Left in the Game \u00e2\u20ac\u201c stand up.\u00c2\u00a0 Plain and simple.\u00c2\u00a0 And if you choose not to, do not complain and yell at the others around you to sit.<\/p>\n<p>12)\u00c2\u00a0 Visiting Fan Loss \u00e2\u20ac\u201c If you are a fan of the visiting team and they lose, do not parade around like you and your team are God\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s gift to baseball.\u00c2\u00a0 Remember \u00e2\u20ac\u201c your team lost = not good= one game further from the pennant.<\/p>\n<p>13)\u00c2\u00a0 Pennant Race Talk \u00e2\u20ac\u201c This is acceptable in mid august thru the end of the season.\u00c2\u00a0 There is no pennant race the second week of April.\u00c2\u00a0 Doesn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t even warrant discussion.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m sure there are more topics to be discussed here, but that leaves the door open to a sequel to this post.<\/p>\n<p>Go Tigers! ~ Shelly<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ok\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m going to lay it all out on the line.\u00c2\u00a0 I am a Baseball Fan\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 a BIG one.\u00c2\u00a0 I appreciate spending my time in the friendly confines of just about any ball park I can get into.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":352,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[9],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-1454","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-general"],"aioseo_notices":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/seamheads.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1454","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/seamheads.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/seamheads.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/seamheads.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/352"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/seamheads.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=1454"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/seamheads.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1454\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/seamheads.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=1454"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/seamheads.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=1454"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/seamheads.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=1454"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
