Era uno de los sobrevivientes de aquel equipo que hab\u00c3\u00ada hecho sonreir a toda Venezuela. Su elegancia con el guante, y su efectividad con el madero fueron los comentarios que m\u00c3\u00a1s escuch\u00c3\u00a9 o le\u00c3\u00ad sobre qui\u00c3\u00a9n conformaba junto a Jos\u00c3\u00a9 Antonio Casanova (ss), Dalmiro Finol (2b) y Enrique Fonseca o Guillermo Vento la l\u00c3\u00adnea central de aquel equipo venezolano.<br \/>\n\u00c2\u00a0En una funci\u00c3\u00b3n del documental \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Venezuela al bate\u00e2\u20ac\u009d de Carlos Oteyza lo vi a la distancia de una larga fila de personas que esperaba por un aut\u00c3\u00b3grafo de qui\u00c3\u00a9n fuera la g\u00c3\u00a9nesis o inspiraci\u00c3\u00b3n de\u00c2\u00a0 jardineros centrales como Victor Davalillo, Raul P\u00c3\u00a9rez Tovar, Juan Francisco Monasterio, Endy Ch\u00c3\u00a1vez o Franklin Guti\u00c3\u00a9rrez. Trat\u00c3\u00a9 de acercarme pero la muchedumbre era tal que deb\u00c3\u00ad conformarme con una visi\u00c3\u00b3n panor\u00c3\u00a1mica de aquel \u00c3\u00addolo que junto a sus compa\u00c3\u00b1eros\u00c2\u00a0 inspir\u00c3\u00b3 aquel discurso de Andr\u00c3\u00a9s Eloy Blanco: \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Pero la radio va anunciando los triunfos, nos dice que un grupo de los nuestros, y no de los que han vivido mejor, sino de los que tienen que correr m\u00c3\u00a1s detr\u00c3\u00a1s de un pan que de una pelota,\u00c2\u00a0 est\u00c3\u00a1 imponiendo su m\u00c3\u00basculo y su mente en un concurso con atletas internacionales. Y entonces el que ya va creyendo en la anemia como en un destino, cree en si mismo como en un camino\u00e2\u20ac\u009d.<br \/>\n\u00c2\u00a0Una p\u00c3\u00a1gina refulgente del beisbol venezolano que siempre brillar\u00c3\u00a1 en cada atrapada, en cada demostraci\u00c3\u00b3n de su brazo para enfriar corredores, en cada batazo, en su aporte para alcanzar aquel trofeo en La Habana que aun resuena en los pasillos deportivos de la venezolanidad para recordarnos que si nos lo proponemos podemos alcanzar grandes metas.<br \/>\nDescansa en paz H\u00c3\u00a9ctor Ben\u00c3\u00adtez Redondo, un jardinero central de gran calibre.<br \/>\n\u00c2\u00a0<br \/>\nAlfonso L. I tried to get closer but the crowd was so huge that I had to be glad with a far sight of that idol who along with his teammates inspired that speech from the poet Andr\u00c3\u00a9s Eloy Blanco: \u00e2\u20ac\u0153But the radio keeps announcing their wins. It says that a group of us, and not those who have had a good life, but the ones who have to run more behind a piece of bread than a baseball, is defeating by his muscle and his mind in a contest of international athletes. Then the one who believes in anemy as a destiny, believes in himself as a road\u00e2\u20ac\u009d.<br \/>\n\u00c2\u00a0A brilliant page of the venezuelan baseball that will always shine in each catch, in each demonstration of his arm, in each hit, in his collaboration to reach that trophy in Havana, which still resounds in the corridors of venezuelan sports history.<br \/>\nRest in peace Hector Benitez Redondo.<br \/>\n\u00c2\u00a0<br \/>\nAlfonso L.
