Desde hace cierto tiempo en la jerga beisbolera se habla de \u00e2\u20ac\u0153jugadores de posici\u00c3\u00b3n\u00e2\u20ac\u009d, en referencia a los peloteros que juegan en el cuadro interior, los jardines y la receptor\u00c3\u00ada, y por otro lado se tipifica a los pitchers como una especie que vive en la burbuja del mont\u00c3\u00adculo.
\nAlgunos expertos han llegado al colmo de calificar al pitcher como \u00e2\u20ac\u0153algui\u00c3\u00a9n que no juega\u00e2\u20ac\u009d en relaci\u00c3\u00b3n al resto de los jugadores al campo. Con todo respeto hacia las personas que han asumido este c\u00c3\u00b3digo particular del b\u00c3\u00a9isbol actual, convendr\u00c3\u00ada hacer un recorrido sobre el lugar que ocupa el lanzador y sus funciones dentro de un juego.
\n El mont\u00c3\u00adculo, lomita, ciudadela, morrito; se levanta aproximadamente a unos diez cent\u00c3\u00admetros sobre la superficie del resto del diamante. En la cima hay una meseta donde se encuentra encajada la goma de la caja de lanzar. \n Antes del juego, desde el momento en que termina su compromiso anterior, el pitcher empieza a empaparse de su pr\u00c3\u00b3ximo rival, puntos d\u00c3\u00a9biles y fuertes de los bateadores, estrategia del manager, caracter\u00c3\u00adsticas del mont\u00c3\u00adculo, del cuadro interior, de los jardines. A medida que se acerca el d\u00c3\u00ada de su apertura, el pitcher aumenta la longitud de sus conversaciones con su receptor para establecer su plan de trabajo ante cada bateador y la manera como se actuara ante las distintas situaciones del juego. Observa y anota en un cuaderno o en su memoria, los movimientos de sus compa\u00c3\u00b1eros lanzadores y los de los pitchers rivales. Trata de descifrar las se\u00c3\u00b1as del manager contrario con su receptor y hasta las de sus coaches con los corredores. Sabe que todo eso cuenta en cualquier juego, por lo cual sabr\u00c3\u00a1 a que atenerse cuando a \u00c3\u00a9l le toque subir el morrito.
\n En una ocasi\u00c3\u00b3n escuch\u00c3\u00a9 a un se\u00c3\u00b1or preguntarle a su hijo de 7 a\u00c3\u00b1os \u00e2\u20ac\u0153\u00c2\u00bfPor qu\u00c3\u00a9 quieres ser pitcher?\u00e2\u20ac\u009d El ni\u00c3\u00b1o se encogi\u00c3\u00b3 de hombros y cuando el se\u00c3\u00b1or empezaba una sonrisa, le respondi\u00c3\u00b3. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Es que si el pitcher no tira la pelota no hay juego\u00e2\u20ac\u009d. El padre se qued\u00c3\u00b3 con la boca abierta y tuvo que acariciar los cabellos del ni\u00c3\u00b1o.
\n El d\u00c3\u00ada de la apertura todos sus compa\u00c3\u00b1eros lo miran a distancia o se acercan y le dan \u00c3\u00a1nimo. Antes de cada lanzamiento voltea hacia sus compa\u00c3\u00b1eros y aprieta la pelota de acuerdo a donde est\u00c3\u00a1n ubicados, a veces hace se\u00c3\u00b1as o habla con el receptor para que ubique a sus compa\u00c3\u00b1eros. Cuando hay corredores en base recuerda cada una de las jugadas previamente ensayadas con el primera base, el camarero o el short stop. Entonces viene todo aquel juego de meter y sacar el pie de la caja de lanzar para confundir a los corredores.
\n La mejor manera de percatarse de la posici\u00c3\u00b3n de un pitcher en un juego de b\u00c3\u00a9isbol es en esos duelos de pitcheo donde cada lanzador coloca la pelota en las esquinas del plato y flota una brisa m\u00c3\u00a1gica donde cada lanzamiento provoca un batazo alcanzable por cualquiera de los otros jugadores \u00e2\u20ac\u0153de posici\u00c3\u00b3n\u00e2\u20ac\u009d. Se pudiera decir que el pitcher depende de que sus compa\u00c3\u00b1eros hagan el trabajo. S\u00c3\u00b3lo que para que ellos cumplan con su deber antes el pitcher ha tenido que hacer el env\u00c3\u00ado adecuado. Para esto se necesita la mejor de las actitudes y una disposici\u00c3\u00b3n insigne para ponerse de acuerdo con el receptor de la mejor manera, sin crear resquemores de imposiciones o arrogancias. En un juego que llega 0-0 al noveno inning existe una historia particular desde cada lado, de cuan importante es un pitcher dentro de un equipo de b\u00c3\u00a9isbol y del nexo indisoluble que existe entre la victoria o la derrota y lo que el monticulista sea capaz de pensar y hacer, por eso siempre se hablado de que el pitcheo representa el 75% de una victoria.

It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s about how important is a pitcher for his team and the strong link between a win or a loss with what the pitcher is capable of thinking and performing.
