{"id":1646,"date":"2009-09-28T06:00:00","date_gmt":"2009-09-28T13:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/seamheads.com\/blog\/2009\/09\/28\/ballpark-analysis\/"},"modified":"2010-03-09T07:40:57","modified_gmt":"2010-03-09T07:40:57","slug":"ballpark-analysis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/seamheads.com\/blog\/2009\/09\/28\/ballpark-analysis\/","title":{"rendered":"Ballpark Analysis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Back in July, we announced the latest and greatest version of the Seamheads Ballpark Database (see:<a href=\"https:\/\/seamheads.com\/blog\/2009\/07\/02\/the-seamheads-ballparks-database-is-here\/\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"> https:\/\/seamheads.com\/blog\/2009\/07\/02\/the-seamheads-ballparks-database-is-here\/<\/span><\/a>).\u00c2\u00a0 We also promised we would eventually begin publishing a series of analytical articles that would use the data from the Ballparks Database to investigate various questions, along the lines of what we had previously done in this article regarding home field advantage (<a href=\"https:\/\/seamheads.com\/blog\/2008\/10\/24\/how-the-home-team-wins\/#more-775\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\">https:\/\/seamheads.com\/blog\/2008\/10\/24\/how-the-home-team-wins\/#more-775<\/span><\/a>).<span style=\"font-family: 'Book Antiqua';\"> <\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, Matt Swartz over at Baseball Prospectus did an excellent 5-part study (see <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseballprospectus.com\/article.php?articleid=9474\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\">http:\/\/www.baseballprospectus.com\/article.php?articleid=9474<\/span><\/a> for an example) dissecting home field advantage, which I highly recommend reading if you have a BP subscription.<\/p>\n<p>So, we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re going to start off in a slightly different direction to begin this new series, and look specifically at fielding. <span> <\/span>In the coming weeks, we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll be looking at questions such as:<\/p>\n<p>1. What stadiums have been the best\/worst overall for turning batted balls into outs?<\/p>\n<p>2. What stadiums have been the best\/worst overall for preventing doubles and triples?<\/p>\n<p>We\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll look at single seasons, and we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll look at all seasons the park existed. Then we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll look at the same questions, only normalizing for each league\/season. As always, we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll also take suggestions on other ways to analyze the data.
