{"id":207,"date":"2008-02-01T17:22:24","date_gmt":"2008-02-02T00:22:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/seamheads.com\/blog\/2008\/02\/01\/revamped-veterans-committee\/"},"modified":"2008-02-01T17:22:42","modified_gmt":"2008-02-02T00:22:42","slug":"revamped-veterans-committee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/seamheads.com\/blog\/2008\/02\/01\/revamped-veterans-committee\/","title":{"rendered":"Revamped Veterans Committee"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">There is now a special segment of the Veterans Committee that will examine the most deserving of those players who played prior to 1943 but are not in the Hall of Fame.<span>  <\/span>A good question is \u00e2\u20ac\u201c how many such players have <st1:city w:st=\"on\"><st1:place w:st=\"on\">HOF<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> numbers and have been ignored in the past? <o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><o:p><\/o:p>According to the NEWS HOF Gauge (based on win shares), there are ONLY THREE position players from this period who have a NEWS score of 280 or greater (obvious <st1:city w:st=\"on\"><st1:place w:st=\"on\">HOF<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> numbers) and are not in the Hall of Fame. As you can see, the NEWS Gauge puts his career slightly ahead of that of Joe Jackson. It also puts him ahead of such players as Willie Stargell and Rod Carew.
