{"id":4815,"date":"2010-05-03T14:25:19","date_gmt":"2010-05-03T21:25:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.seamheads.com\/?p=4815"},"modified":"2010-05-05T15:19:16","modified_gmt":"2010-05-05T22:19:16","slug":"kaline-to-accept-scully-award-wednesday-on-behalf-of-harwell%e2%80%8f","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/seamheads.com\/blog\/2010\/05\/03\/kaline-to-accept-scully-award-wednesday-on-behalf-of-harwell%e2%80%8f\/","title":{"rendered":"Kaline to Accept Scully Award Wednesday on Behalf of Harwell"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>From Jerry Milani<\/em>:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Tigers Hall Of Famer Al Kaline To Accept Vin Scully  Lifetime Achievement Award From Fordham\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s WFUV Radio On Behalf Of  Legendary Tigers Broadcaster Ernie Harwell On Wednesday Night, May 5, At  Gotham Hall In New York City At WFUV Spring Gala<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Hall of Fame \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Voice of the Detroit Tigers,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d <strong>Ernie Harwell<\/strong>,  will receives the <strong>Vin Scully Lifetime Achievement Award in  Sports Broadcasting<\/strong> from Fordham University\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s WFUV Radio (90.7  FM\/wfuv.org) this Wednesday night, May 5, at Gotham Hall in New York  City. <strong>Al Kaline<\/strong>, the Tigers Hall of Fame slugger and a  former broadcast colleague of the gravely ill Harwell, will be in  Manhattan to accept the Scully Award on Ernie\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s behalf at WFUV\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Spring  Gala.<\/p>\n<div>&#8220;The players absolutely love him,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d said Kaline. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153When he was  broadcasting and would come into the locker room before the game, the  guys wouldn&#8217;t head to the training room. They were hoping that he was  coming to talk to them!\u00c2\u00a0 Ernie was especially helpful to other aspiring  broadcasters, whether in college or high school or just starting out. He  was kind of like a &#8216;big brother&#8217; to everyone.&#8221;<\/div>\n<div>Scully, who began his career as a <strong>Red Barber<\/strong> prot\u00c3\u00a9g\u00c3\u00a9 in 1950 in the Brooklyn Dodgers\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 broadcast booth one year out of  Fordham, is now in his 60th year calling Dodgers\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 games. Harwell is the  third recipient of the Scully Lifetime Achievement Award, with its  namesake receiving the inaugural award in 2008, and <strong>Dick Enberg<\/strong> accepting last year.
