{"id":5845,"date":"2010-06-16T14:25:43","date_gmt":"2010-06-16T21:25:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.seamheads.com\/?p=5845"},"modified":"2010-06-16T14:25:43","modified_gmt":"2010-06-16T21:25:43","slug":"cristian-guerrero-will-not-be-forgotten-now-after-hitting-five-homers-in-as-many-times-at-bat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/seamheads.com\/blog\/2010\/06\/16\/cristian-guerrero-will-not-be-forgotten-now-after-hitting-five-homers-in-as-many-times-at-bat\/","title":{"rendered":"Cristian Guerrero Will Not Be Forgotten Now After Hitting Five Homers in as Many Times at Bat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Since <strong>Cristian Guerrero\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s <\/strong>time in the <strong>Atlantic League <\/strong>was limited it is not surprising people did not remember much about him, but former teammate and current <strong>York <\/strong>outfielder <strong>Steve Haake <\/strong>was not in total shock when he learned the strapping outfielder had pounded home runs in five consecutive times at the plate in an independent <strong>Northern League <\/strong>game.<\/p>\n<p>This was a tremendous feat, duplicated only once anywhere in professional baseball\u00e2\u20ac\u201dmajors or minors\u00e2\u20ac\u201dso I tried, although without much success, to find out more about the 29-year-old right-handed hitter from some of the people who were in the Atlantic League when Guerrero played 43 games for <strong>Camden <\/strong>in 2007.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.seamheads.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/atlantic.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-5846\" title=\"atlantic\" src=\"http:\/\/www.seamheads.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/atlantic.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"134\" height=\"144\" \/><\/a>Somerset <\/strong>Manager <strong>Sparky Lyle<\/strong> tried to dig up some recollections.\u00c2\u00a0 He couldn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t.\u00c2\u00a0 The Patriots\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 <strong>Brett Jodie<\/strong>, who doubles as director of player procurement and pitching coach, thought about the question.\u00c2\u00a0 \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Lanky guy,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d he said after a few seconds.\u00c2\u00a0 Right on.\u00c2\u00a0 Guerrero is listed at 6-foot-5 and anywhere from 200 to 220 pounds.\u00c2\u00a0 \u00e2\u20ac\u0153He had some pop; some wheels,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Jodie continued, once more right on target.<\/p>\n<p><strong> Ellie Rodriguez, <\/strong>the league\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Latin coordinator, also remembered Guerrero\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s size, and that he had hit a few home runs but with modest success.\u00c2\u00a0 Yes, seven dingers in 145 at-bats plus a .290 average and 23 runs batted in.<\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong>Haake, who recently joined the <strong>Revolution<\/strong> after five seasons in <strong>Gary, IN<\/strong>, had no such trouble zeroing in on Guerrero\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s talent since they were teammates with the <strong>RailCats <\/strong>the last two seasons.<\/p>\n<p>After calling the accomplishment \u00e2\u20ac\u0153unbelieveable\u00e2\u20ac\u009d, Haake said it did not surprise him that if anyone could hit five round-trippers in as many opportunities it would be his former teammate.\u00c2\u00a0 He\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s thin and at times can be out of synch, Haake explained, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153but he is extremely strong and when he gets hot he can carry a team.\u00c2\u00a0 He is one of the best players I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve ever played with.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>Guerrero\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s feat was accomplished in a doubleheader played in <strong>Rockford, IL<\/strong>, with home runs in his last two at-bats in the opener and the first three in the nightcap\u00e2\u20ac\u201don the only three pitches he saw\u00e2\u20ac\u201dbefore \u00c2\u00a0ending the night with a sacrifice fly to the base of the wall in right-center.\u00c2\u00a0 The only other known time the feat has been accomplished also was in an independent league.\u00c2\u00a0 <strong>Corey Parker<\/strong> did it for <strong>Bangor, ME <\/strong>in what was the <strong>Northeast League <\/strong>in 1996.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>* * * *WANT MORE <\/strong>INDEPENDENT<strong> BASEBALL COVERAGE?\u00c2\u00a0 Check out\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.atlanticleaguebaseball.com\/\">www.AtlanticLeagueBaseball.com<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.indybaseballchatter.com\/\">www.IndyBaseballChatter.com<\/a> * * * *<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcFive Tool\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 Jimerson Challenging Batting Leader<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Charlton Jimerson <\/strong>does not show up among the <strong>Atlantic League <\/strong>batting leaders since he only has 99 official plate appearances, but he is making his mark as <strong>Bridgeport\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s <\/strong>cleanup hitter just as he did last season when he won the batting title (.335) and all-league outfield honors with <strong>Newark. <\/strong>He trailed the official league-leader, <strong>Ramon Castro <\/strong>of <strong>York, <\/strong>.364 to .371 entering play Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153He\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s (Jimereson) a special player,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d praised <strong>Bluefish <\/strong>Manager <strong>Willie Upshaw<\/strong>, who has worked with many a top flight major leaguer.<strong> <\/strong> Upshaw says the 30-year-old Jimerson is a \u00e2\u20ac\u0153five tool player, who is playing as hard as I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve seen anyone in this league.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d\u00c2\u00a0 The manager also likes Jimerson\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s \u00e2\u20ac\u0153great focus.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u00e2\u20ac\u212207 Batting Champ Victor Rodriguez Back at Newark<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Another <strong>Atlantic League <\/strong>batting champion has \u00e2\u20ac\u0153gone home\u00e2\u20ac\u009d.\u00c2\u00a0 <strong>Victor Rodriguez<\/strong>, who led <strong>Newark <\/strong>in both average (.365) and hits (159) while helping the <strong>Bears <\/strong>take the 2007 title, was traded from <strong>Bridgeport<\/strong> to the <strong>New Jersey <\/strong>haunts Monday for a player to be named later.\u00c2\u00a0 The 33-year-old had hit .276 with a homer and four RBI in the seven games he played for the <strong>Bluefish<\/strong>, and had a run-scoring double (1-for-4) in his return to Newark Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>(<em>These are excerpts from the Atlantic League Notebook.
