Ryan Had \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcA Blast\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 With Angels; Could Aldridge, Mastny Be on Deck?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This has to be a frustrating day for <strong>Michael Ryan<\/strong>, one of the bright alumni lights for the <strong>Atlantic League,<\/strong> since the <strong>Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim <\/strong>designated him for assignment Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Ryan, who turns 33 in a few days (July 6), had battled his way through four other major league organizations and a 65-game stay with <strong>Somerset <\/strong>in 2008 (.282-15-44) in an effort to get back to the \u00e2\u20ac\u0153bigs\u00e2\u20ac\u009d for the first time since 2005, when he was in the last of his 127 games with the <strong>Minnesota Twins.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong>The left-handed-hitting outfielder and occasional first baseman had an exceptional spring training with the Angels and finally got to the <strong>American <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seamheads.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/atlantic.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-5846\" title=\"atlantic\" src=\"http:\/\/www.seamheads.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/atlantic.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"134\" height=\"144\" \/><\/a>League <\/strong>team after pounding the baseball earlier this season in <strong>Salt Lake City<\/strong><strong>. <\/strong>Manager <strong>Mike Scioscia <\/strong>had been complimentary all along, and Ryan got into 22 games, hitting .205 with eight hits, including four doubles, and driving in two runs.\u00c2\u00a0 But when the Angels needed a roster spot in order to activate catcher <strong>Jeff Mathis<\/strong> it was Ryan who drew the short straw.<\/p>\n<p>Ryan said his time with the Angels was \u00e2\u20ac\u0153a blast\u00e2\u20ac\u009d, according to <em>MLBTradeRumors.com<\/em>, although he said he had not decided if he would accept going back to the minor leagues if he clears waivers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Bad Attitude Not for Hot-Hitting Aldridge<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If <strong>Michael Ryan <\/strong>ends up back in <strong>Salt Lake   City<\/strong><strong> <\/strong>he will once again be a teammate to former <strong>Newark Bears <\/strong>outfielder <strong>Cory Aldridge<\/strong>, who has been on another hot streak while also continuing to \u00c2\u00a0display a wonderful attitude.<\/p>\n<p>Aldridge has gone 9-for-17 with five RBI in the last four games to build his <strong>PCL <\/strong>average back to .314 with 10 homers and 48 runs batted in.\u00c2\u00a0 \u00e2\u20ac\u0153It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s easy to have a bad attitude,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d the 31-year-old, who has only five major league at-bats despite 176 minor league home runs spread over 14 seasons, told <em>The Salt Lake Tribune <\/em>this week.\u00c2\u00a0 \u00e2\u20ac\u0153A lot of guys put up good numbers, but it just doesn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t matter.\u00c2\u00a0 So I come out and just try to have fun.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p <strong>Somerset<\/strong><strong> <\/strong>hurler could be knocking on the major league door if he maintains his pace.\u00c2\u00a0 Six-foot-6 right-hander <strong>Tom Mastny <\/strong>has made two consecutive strong starts since leaving the <strong>Patriots <\/strong>for <strong>Florida<\/strong><strong>\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s <\/strong>top farm club in <strong>New Orleans<\/strong><strong>. <\/strong>Mastny, 29, who has a 9-5 major league record plus five saves in 80 appearances with <strong>Cleveland<\/strong><strong>, <\/strong>blanked <strong>Houston\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Round Rock Express<\/strong> on five hits over five innings in his initial start, then gave up only four hits and two runs in six innings to <strong>Texas\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Oklahoma City Redhawks <\/strong>on
