Helps Optimism for Both Early Second-Half Leaders"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A head-to-head series between <strong>Lancaster <\/strong>and <strong>Bridgeport<\/strong> presented an ideal opportunity to check the pulse of these second-half division leaders.\u00c2\u00a0 \u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Both managers, <strong>Tom Herr <\/strong>of the <strong>Barnstormers<\/strong> and <strong>Willie Upshaw<\/strong> of the host <strong>Bluefish,<\/strong> believe their starting pitching has gotten better as the 140-game season has progressed, and that fact alone could keep them alive as they try to join first-half winners <strong>York <\/strong>and <strong>Southern Maryland <\/strong>in the playoffs.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seamheads.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/atlantic.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-5846\" src=\"http:\/\/www.seamheads.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/atlantic.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"134\" height=\"144\" \/><\/a>Upshaw may have had to bite his upper lip just a trifle to show overall confidence since Bridgeport had just lost two of its key offensive pieces to one of the league\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s best run-producing machines.\u00c2\u00a0 All-Star outfielder <strong>Charlton Jimerson, <\/strong>the defending <strong>Atlantic League <\/strong>batting champion (.335 for <strong>Newark) <\/strong>and even better this year (10-43-.345 in 48 games), had his contract purchased by the <strong>Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim<\/strong>, and designated hitter <strong>Wily Mo Pena<\/strong> (8-34-.310) is headed off to the <strong>San Diego Padres <\/strong>organization.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Upshaw and General Manager <strong>Bob Goughan<\/strong>, who work as a team in finding players, have two familiar faces as impressive replacements although they will not make up offensively for anything close to the 18 home runs and 77 RBI produced by Jimerson and Pena. \u00c2\u00a0Veteran outfielder <strong>Tike Redman<\/strong>, fresh off hitting .355 with a brilliant .462 on-base percentage in the <strong>Mexican League<\/strong>,<strong> <\/strong>is expected back in uniform as early as Wednesday, when the two teams play a day doubleheader to make up for Monday\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s rainout.\u00c2\u00a0 Left-handed starter <strong>Paul Oseguera, <\/strong>just released out of the <strong>Oakland <\/strong>farm system, has returned already and probably will start on Saturday.\u00c2\u00a0 \u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 \u00e2\u20ac\u0153If we stay healthy, we should stay in every game,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Upshaw said.\u00c2\u00a0 \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Our starters have been much better.\u00c2\u00a0 If we get the lead we season).\u00e2\u20ac\u009d\u00c2\u00a0 The <strong>Lancaster <\/strong>boss said the improvement started with about 25 games remaining in the first-half, with the <strong>Barnstormers <\/strong>going 15-10 in that stretch and now 7-3 to open the second half.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Our bullpen has been good all year,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d
