Somerset\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s <\/strong>last place standing in the Freedom Division <\/strong>with a 6-12 record may look bleak, but it is far too early to count the two-time defending champions out since they only trail division-leading Lancaster <\/strong>by four games (five in the loss column).\u00c2\u00a0 The Patriots<\/strong>, who have already tried 22 pitchers this season, have bolstered their mound staff with the return of southpaw Brian Adams<\/strong> from Mexico, <\/strong>where he was 2-0 with an imposing 1.07 ERA for 42 innings.\u00c2\u00a0 Adams won 39 games (39-17) for Somerset the last three years, including 13 one year ago.\u00c2\u00a0 Somerset has added three left-handed arms of late starting with Bill Pulsipher<\/strong> then Adams and Andrew Dobies, <\/strong>a 24-25 career minor leaguer.<\/p>\n

Other fresh arms in the league include lefty John Koronka<\/strong>, who has an 8-13 major league record, at Lancaster <\/strong>and closer Armando Benitez <\/strong>once again back with Newark.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Aldridge, Jimerson, Gibbons Have Hot Bats<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The string of Atlantic League <\/strong>alumni prospering in affiliated leagues seems never ending.\u00c2\u00a0 Derrick Ellison (Southern Maryland, Bridgeport) <\/strong>has allowed only two <\/a>\"\"<\/a>hits in 12 shutout innings his last 10 games with the New York Mets\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 Binghamton, NY <\/strong>farm club while the Blue Crabs\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 Dane DeLaRosa <\/strong>has posted a 3-1 record and 0.66 ERA in his last 10 appearances with Tampa Bay\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Montgomery, AL <\/strong>club.\u00c2\u00a0 He has won seven of nine decisions for the year, all in relief.<\/p>\n

Among hitters, Cory Aldridge (Newark) <\/strong>has picked up right where he left off with Salt Lake City <\/strong>before his promotion to the Los Angeles Angels <\/strong>by going 7-for-17 in his first four games back with the Bees<\/strong>, and Charlton Jimerson <\/strong>has taken his hot bat from Bridgeport <\/strong>to the Angels\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 <\/strong>Double-A Arkansas <\/strong>club with three homers, 11 RBI and a .319 average (15-for-47) in his first 11 games.\u00c2\u00a0 Jay Gibbons (Long Island) <\/strong>has had another torrid stretch at Albuquerque (Dodgers) <\/strong>by going 3-11-.406 in his last 10 games to run his season log to 17-75-.335.<\/p>\n
