Loses League Home Run Leader Jason Perry"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Lancaster <\/strong>took it on the chin four times in five meetings with the <strong>Atlantic League\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s <\/strong>hottest team, <strong>Bridgeport<\/strong>, this week, but that is only the start of the potential problems facing the <strong>Barnstormers<\/strong>, who cling to a two-game lead in the <strong>Freedom Division <\/strong>race.<\/p>\n<p>They have to figure out a way to replace league home run leader and No. 3 hitter <strong>Jason Perry<\/strong>, who left after Wednesday night to return to <strong>Georgia Tech <\/strong>to finish up a degree.\u00c2\u00a0 He is gone for the season.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.seamheads.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/atlantic.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-5846\" src=\"http:\/\/www.seamheads.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/atlantic.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"134\" height=\"144\" \/><\/a>And, while Lancaster has dropped six of its last 10 games and first-half winner <strong>York <\/strong>has lost eight of 10, both teams need to look over their shoulder because they have allowed two-time defending champion <strong>Somerset<\/strong>, despite its near season-long struggles,<strong> <\/strong>to pull within three games of the top spot.\u00c2\u00a0 <strong>Newark <\/strong>trails by only four.<\/p>\n<p>Lancaster and York go head-to-head this weekend, with the Barnstormers as hosts.\u00c2\u00a0 Newark visits Somerset.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153We need guys to pick up the slack (in Perry\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s absence)\u00e2\u20ac\u009d, Manager <strong>Tom Herr <\/strong>told the hometown <em>Intelligencer Journal<\/em>, adding that first baseman-catcher-DH <strong>Adam Witter <\/strong>will be in the No. 3 slot for now.\u00c2\u00a0 \u00e2\u20ac\u0153I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m encouraged (by) what I see from Witter, so he\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s going to continue to be in there\u00e2\u20ac\u009d.\u00c2\u00a0 Knowing Perry was leaving, Herr told this corner earlier in the week that while \u00e2\u20ac\u0153we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re in the hunt\u00e2\u20ac\u009d he still is on the lookout for another middle-of-the-order hitter. \u00c2\u00a0Witter\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s contributions have been sizeable with six home runs in the 13 games he has played since coming off the disabled list late last month.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Perry finishes with 150 career homers, including the 22 he hit this season, along with driving in 72 runs and playing in 97 of the first 102 games.\u00c2\u00a0 Perry came out of his final game after League<\/strong>, it would be tough to quarrel with <strong>Newark\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s <\/strong>acquisition of outfielder <strong>Tim Raines, Jr. <\/strong>as the most interesting. \u00c2\u00a0He re-joined his father, <strong>Tim, Sr.,<\/strong> the <strong>Bears\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 <\/strong>manager.<\/p>\n<p>Raines, who had hit .286 in 86 games for <strong>Somerset<\/strong>, walked, stole a base and scored in his first trip to the plate.\u00c2\u00a0 He is now 3-for-10 in three games.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">\u00c2\u00a0<strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Chiaravalloti Shelved, Again<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>So much for <strong>Vito Chiaravalloti <\/strong>having nearly two weeks to concentrate on baseball without his teaching or studying duties getting in the way.\u00c2\u00a0 The <strong>Camden <\/strong>first baseman hyper-extended his left elbow diving for a ball, and has not played this
