around next month, the all-but-certain first round matchup between <strong>Southern Maryland <\/strong>and <strong>Bridgeport<\/strong> will have an interesting sub-plot pitting <strong>Blue Crabs <\/strong>pitching standout <strong>Dan Reichart <\/strong>against the <strong>Bluefish\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s <\/strong>versatile <strong>Joe Jiannetti.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seamheads.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/atlantic.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-5846\" src=\"http:\/\/www.seamheads.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/atlantic.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"134\" height=\"144\" \/><\/a><\/strong>Both players are having an outstanding season, Reichart with a league-leading and franchise-record 14 victories despite a tough loss Monday night, and Jiannetti with a .317 average and versatility that allows <strong>Willie Upshaw <\/strong>to depend on him almost anywhere in the infield or outfield.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 They also share the problem of being diabetic, even though this issue can be completely overlooked by the casual onlooker.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 \u00e2\u20ac\u0153I have pretty much grown up with it\u00e2\u20ac\u009d, says the 28-year-old Jiannetti, for whom the disease was detected when he was in his early teens.\u00c2\u00a0 \u00e2\u20ac\u0153It was tough at first\u00e2\u20ac\u009d.\u00c2\u00a0 Wikipedia says Reichart was diagnosed in 1998 when he was a highly-touted first-round draftee by <strong>Kansas City <\/strong>(seventh selection overall in 1997) and on his way to winning 21 games for the <strong>Royals <\/strong>between 1999 and 2002\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 \u00e2\u20ac\u0153I believe it (diabetes) cost me in the draft out of high school\u00e2\u20ac\u009d, says Jiannetti, who finally was taken in the 40<sup>th<\/sup> round by the <strong>New York Mets <\/strong>(2000).\u00c2\u00a0 \u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Jiannetti, who has been playing third base regularly for much of Bridgeport\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s hot second half, has Type 1 diabetes, which means he will have it for life.\u00c2\u00a0 A .288 career hitter when the season started, that average is going to jump if he continues his current pace, which has him tied for seventh in the league batting race.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Pitcher of the Year Honors Possible for Reichart<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 <strong>Dan Reichart <\/strong>could well be on his way to Pitcher of the Year honors in the <strong>Atlantic League<\/strong> since his 14 victories (14-8) are three more than anyone else can claim.\u00c2\u00a0 His 3.72 earned run average ranks second to the 3.37 of <strong>Lancaster\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Ben Fritz<\/strong>, with whom he shares the strikeout leadership (118).\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>* * * *WANT MORE INDEPENDENT <strong>Southern Maryland <\/strong>lasted only seven games (4-for-29, .138) before <strong>Atlanta <\/strong>signed the 28-year-old for its Double-A <strong>Mississippi (Pearl, MS) <\/strong>farm club after Monday\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s game.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">This \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcn That<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Slugging <strong>Willis Otanez <\/strong>is back in the <strong>Atlantic League<\/strong>, this time with <strong>Long Island <\/strong>after winning the <strong>Mexican League <\/strong>batting championship with a robust .393 season with 26 doubles, 12 homers, 76 RBI and a .470 on-base percentage at age 37.<strong>\u00c2\u00a0 <\/strong>He beat out <strong>Sandy Madera <\/strong>by 10 points for the batting title.\u00c2\u00a0 Madera, is now at <strong>Newark, <\/strong>where he has gone 5-for-28 (.179) in his first seven games\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6<strong>Bridgeport <\/strong>rushed onetime <strong>Tampa Bay <\/strong>and <strong>New York Mets <\/strong>hurler <strong>Bartolome Fortunato <\/strong>into action after signing the right-hander Monday, and he got credit for the 2-1, 10-inning win over
