From MSG Network:

Last night on the fifth episode of MSG’s “The Lineup: New York’s All-time Best Baseball Players,” it was time to decide who would lead New York’s greatest infield at the shortstop position. The five nominees were Travis Jackson, Derek Jeter, Pee Wee Reese, Jose Reyes, and Phil Rizzuto. The show’s panel, which consists of Hall-of-Fame Mets catcher Gary Carter, former Yankees reliever Sparky Lyle, Executive V.P. of the Elias Sports Bureau Steve Hirdt, author Will Leitch, and host Fran Healy, all wrote Derek Jeter’s name into “The Lineup.” The unanimous decision was based on Jeter’s consistency, the leadership he brings to the field, and a career that will leave him as one of the most established winners in all of New York Sports.

Steve Hirdt, Exec. V.P., Elias Sports Bureau

“I think one of the most consistently exciting things in baseball that you see is when Reyes hits a ball down the right field line as a left-handed hitter, or sometimes into the gap…and you know he’s thinking triple from the first step out of the box.”

Michael Rapaport, Actor

“He’s (Jeter) never let us down on the field, he’s never let us down off the field, he’s been class…”

David Cone, New York Yankees (1995-2000)

“The leader (Jeter) of our team almost the minute he stepped into the starting role.”

Tommy Lasorda, Los Angeles Dodgers Manager (1976-1996)

“This guy (Jeter) makes the other guys proud to be on that team with him.”

Gary Carter, Hall-of-fame Mets Catcher

“He (Jeter) is a great ambassador of the game.  I think he represents the game as it should be.  A great man of integrity…a great shortstop and certainly a future hall of famer.”

To date, “The Lineup” reads:

C: Yogi Berra
1B: Lou Gehrig
2B:  Jackie Robinson
3B: Alex Rodriguez
SS: Derek Jeter
