Saturday, May 12th – The Detroit Stars visit the Chicago American Giants at Schorling Park.

Here are the starting lineups:

Detroit Stars
1. Wade Johnston, LF
2. Halley Harding, SS
3. Turkey Stearnes, CF
4. Ed Rile, 1B
5. Hurley McNair, RF
6. Ted Radcliffe, C
7. Claude Johnson, 3B
8. Bingo DeMoss, 2B
9. Jack Marshall, P

Chicago American Giants
1. Jelly Gardner, CF
2. Dave Malarcher, 3B
3. Steel Arm Davis, RF
4. Jim Brown, 1B
5. Nat Rogers, RF
6. Pythias Russ, C
7. Bobby Williams, SS
8. Charles Williams, 2B
9. Willie Foster, P

35-year-old former Chicago Pitcher Jack Marshall of Detroit opposes star left-handed pitcher Willie Foster.

The American Giants score one run in the 2nd and 1 in the 3rd, but 6 foot 6 inch Ed Rile hits an opposite field 2-run home run to left field off Willie Foster to tie the game at 2-2. It is reportedly the first home run over that fence in three seasons (due to its odd shape, straight-away LF at 398 Ft is about the same distance as left-center field.)

Detroit adds single runs in the 7th, 8th, and 9th inning, for a 5-2 lead. Chicago mounts a rally in the 9th, and Manager DeMoss relieves Jack Marshall with George Mitchell. The American Giants load the bases with one out, but are only able to score one, and the Stars win 5-3.

NOTES: The Stars are eagerly looking for SS Grady Orange to join the team, once his medical school semester is completed. The tentative plan is to move Harding from SS to 3B, Claude Johnson from 3B to 2B, and DeMoss from 2B to full-time manager.

Jack Marshall goes 8 plus innings, giving up 2 runs and 5 hits, striking out 6 and walking 4. Ed Rile goes 2-3 with a double, home run, two walks, and 2 RBI. Ted Radcliffe is 3 for 5 with a run scored.

Other NNL Scores:
Birmingham Black Barons-6, Memphis Red Sox-4 (Lewis Park)
Kansas City Monarchs-10, Cleveland Tigers-0 (Muehlbach Field)
St. Louis Stars-9, Cuban Stars (West)-0 (Stars Park)
