Saturday, May 19th – The Detroit Stars visit the Kansas City Monarchs at Muehlebach Field.

Jack Marshall, the old man of the Detroit pitching staff at age 35, opposes future HOF P Andy Cooper of Kansas City.

Kansas City strikes for two runs in the bottom of the 1st. Detroit comes back with a run in the 2nd and two in the 3rd. Kansas City ties it in the bottom of the third at 3-3. Detroit scores 3 in the 4th vs. 1 for Kansas City. 6-4 Stars lead at that point. William Bell relieves Andy Cooper and gives up 4 in the 5th to KC’s 1, for a 10-5 Detroit lead. Kansas City manages a run in the 7th and another in the 8th. Cristobal Torriente relieves Marshall in the eighth to limit the damage and get the ‘save’ in a 10-7 Detroit victory.

NOTES: Torriente pitches 2 innings of no-hit relief for the save. Turkey Steanes is 4-5 with two doubles and a run scored. Wade Johnston goes 2 for 4 with a triple a walk, two RBI and a run scored. For Kansas City George Giles goes 3-5 with 3 RBI. Newt Joseph is 2-4 with a double, a walk, an RBI, a run scored, and a stolen base. Birthday boy Newt Allen is 1 for 1 with 3 walks, 2 RBI and a run scored.
