Computer Baseball Sims – Conducting a Solo Draft
May 1, 2025 by Derek Bain · 1 Comment
I recently posted a number of tutorial videos on my HardballRetro YouTube channel offering a step-by-step walkthrough for conducting a draft using various computer baseball simulations. You can view the playlist here or click on the individual links to access the videos. I usually break them into two parts: the first video discusses how to create a new league, unaffiliate all of the players (make them all free agents), configure the draft options, and conduct the draft. In the subsequent video(s), I review the draft results and briefly check each team’s roster, simulate a season, and check the final standings and league leaders.

APBA Baseball for Windows was developed and published by Miller Associates for the IBM PC personal computer. Several iterations were released for Windows 3.1 and subsequent editions were built to run on the Windows 95 operating system between 1993 and 1999. I’m utilizing version 5.75 in my tutorial but this feature was implemented in version 5.0.

Old Time Baseball was developed and published in 1995 by Stormfront Studios for the IBM PC personal computer. Please note that while the tutorial utilizes Old Time Baseball, you can perform the same steps in Tony La Russa Baseball 3 or 4. The only additional steps would be to import the season in OTBB first, then import into TLBB 3 or 4. Alternatively, you can create / edit teams and conduct a draft using the players that you create.

Please note that while the tutorial utilizes Front Page Sports Baseball ’94, you can perform the same steps in Front Page Sports Baseball ’96 or ’98 editions. Alternatively, you can create / edit teams and conduct a draft using the players that you create.
