Tuesday, May 22nd – The Cuban Stars (West) are visiting the Chicago American Giants at Schorling Field.

Basilio Rosell, a 26-year-old pitcher in his 3rd season touring the U.S. with the Cuban Stars (West) is opposed by veteran George Harney, acting manager, who has just relieved the day before.

There is no scoring until the bottom of the 3rd, when Nat Rogers lines a hard grounder off of 3B Ramon Martinez’ legs, and Jim Brown follows with an infield single to Martinez whose throw to first gets away from 1B Felipe Sierra, allowing Rogers to score.

In the bottom of the 6th, Bienvenido Jimenez doubles and comes around to score on a hit by Cando Lopez. The American Giants come right back in the bottom of the inning when Steel Arm Davis is hit by a pitch, Pythias Russ walks, John Hines sac bunts them forward, and Bobby Williams drives them both home with a line single to right field. 3-1 Chicago after 6 innings.

On to the top of the 8th, where the Cubans string together, two hits, a walk, and an error by P Harney to score two runs and tie the game up at 3-3.

The game remains tied until the top of the 11th, when SS Russ commits his second error on a grounder by Rogelio Alonso. Ramon Martinez sacrifices hm to second, then P Rosell doubles him home. Jimenez then singles home Rosell with an insurance run. Rosell holds Chicago in the bottom of the inning, and the final is 5-3 Cuban Stars in 11 innings.

NOTES: Chicago pitcher George Harney at 38-years-old faces 48 batters after facing 7 the day before. Basilio Rosell goes 11 innings for the win, giving up 3 runs (2 earned), 7 hits, 1 walk, 1 HBP and 2 strikeouts. Cando Lopez is the hitting star, going 3-6 with 2 RBI and 1 run scored. Chicago commits 6 errors.

Chicago center fielder Jelly Gardner was injured and did not play.
